In Memoriam, encaustic on silk fabric over wood panel, 24 x 24 inches
Artist Statement:
In Memoriam was one of the first pieces created after long months of numbness after the first COVID-19 lockdown. My studio sat idle as I tried to make sense of our world for myself and my family. I have always believed that art in many forms is universal in the ability to heal the spirit. It had been difficult for me to honor my own words.
This silk fabric was purchased while on a memorable trip to Spain several years ago. I knew that someday it would be used for something meaningful and healing for myself and others.
As I applied the wax and heated it gently I was keenly aware of all those people around the world who died of COVID-19. Each flower began to signify those lost and the families who grieved that loss. It was in many ways a forced change of perspective for my creativity
My work addresses not only the times we are in now but as you quoted Joseph Campbell, “We must let go of the life we have planned so as to accept the one that is waiting for us.” The life of many of us planned was changed in an instant. Waiting for me though was the gift of moving my art into a new direction or perspective, being informed by the news of the day and how it may affect us all.
Price: $1225.00 + $45 shipping fee
