RICHARD A. NICHOLAS is a New Mexico-based artist who explores the nexus of the very old (encaustic) and the very new (digital photography). He is interested in people and the ongoing struggle for happiness.

Richard is a photographer, painter, printmaker, and a retired U.S. diplomat and a family physician. He learned about the ancient process of encaustic painting when visiting Fayoum, Egypt. He studied Medicine at the University of Colorado and studied printmaking at Singapore’s Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts. His training and experience as a Family Physician give him a unique perspective and an eye for recognizing subtle variations. Richard has exhibited at American Embassies in Thailand and Singapore and at galleries in Southeast Asia and New Mexico. He is represented by Alumbramos Galeria de Arte on Canyon Road, Santa Fe, New Mexico.
