
Helen K. Garber had a studio in Venice, California for 25 years before trading her urban beach life to a desert ranch life in 2016. She presently lives with her husband, 3 horses and 3 dogs on a ranch here in Santa Fe. Her change of lifestyle has informed her new body of work highlighting the value of the horse in modern society.
Her photographic images are in important museum collections such as LACMA, the Brooklyn Museum, the Museum of the City of NY, the LA Public Library Photography Collection and the archives of the Venice Biennale. Her work has been reproduced in books, magazines and catalogues as well as collected and exhibited internationally.
Ms Garber has been working with encaustic wax medium since 2008 and had an early piece acquired, exhibited and published in the exhibit catalogue by MOMA, Dublin, Ireland. She had a number of exhibits of her encaustic work in while living in Los Angeles including a one person show for the international photography fair, Photo LA and another one person exhibit, Encaustic Noir, for dnj Gallery, Santa Monica, CA. Her encaustic work is in many private collections. She is presently showing her encaustic work at Keep Contemporary Gallery, Santa Fe, New Mexico. She teaches photo workshops through Santa Fe Photographic Workshops and previously taught at Otis College of Art and Design, Photo LA and the Skirball Center in Los Angeles.
