JUNE 5 – JULY 17

Exhibition has been extended through August 7

FLOW  is a themed juried exhibit which was open to all national and internationally-based Encaustic Art Institute members to apply to. The juror, Ruth Maude, selected work for this exhibition based on the quality of the work, how well the work relates to the theme of the exhibition and on how well it contributes to the overall cohesiveness of the exhibit. The show is presented online and in-person at the Museum of Encaustic Art in New Mexico.

THEME

Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi, a Hungarian-American psychologist, showed how everyone from artists to assembly-line workers could be transported to a state of focused contentment by getting caught in the “flow,” a term he coined and later popularized.

Flow has been on people’s minds, since the tide of disruptions in our personal norms. An older saying has been resurrected, “Go With The Flow,” and seems to be the mantra. In addition, the natural form of encaustic medium is “to flow,”  so is the act of creativity in any form of wax – hot or cold. It is a state of well-being when creating that we hoped the entrants would attain with their entries.

Juror – RUTH MAUDE

RUTH MAUDE, is a mixed media encaustic artist based in Toronto. Her work has been shown in solo and group shows throughout Ontario and is in private collections in Canada and the United States.

Maude’s creative practice is one of exploration and play. The founder of the popular All Things Encaustic blog, she is constantly experimenting with a variety of encaustic materials, techniques and tools and sharing her discoveries with her readers. View her work on her artist website.

Congratulations and thank you to all of the artists who submitted work to be considered by the juror, Ruth Maude. The submissions showcased a range of approaches to the criteria set out in the Call for Art, and highlighted the artists’ technical skills in utilizing the medium of encaustic/wax. The selection process was challenging. We would like to extend a special thank you to the juror, Ruth Maude for her insight and careful consideration of the entries. The resulting show is one that well represents the varied work of the Encaustic Art Institute membership.
