Encaustic Art Institute Proudly Presents

5th Annual Global Warming is REAL Exhibition

July 10 – August 27

Global Warming is REAL. As nations and economies shut down due to the COVID-19 pandemic, pollution levels and human patterns change in ways that were detectable by satellites. As all types of social, economic, industrial, and urban activity suddenly shut off, nature took advantage and showed improvement in the quality of air, rivers, less noise pollution, and undisturbed and calm wildlife. COVID-19 may have temporarily lessened our carbon footprint, giving us a view into what our individual effect on Global Warming constitutes. At the same time, Climate Change is becoming more visible and tangible through increased fires, glaciers melting and warming oceans.

The Call for Art for this juried exhibit produced a great response with many insightful and aesthetically beautiful encaustic/wax entries. The artists submitting work to be juried into this exhibit faced tough competition. The juror, Shannon Amidon has selected a strong showing of work addressing the theme of Global Warming.

A creative interpretation of the Global Warming theme was to be at the heart of the work submitted for this exhibit. Juror Shannon Amidon chose twenty-seven pieces that embody the theme and call attention to not only the prominent and well-known issues but also to some of the lesser-discussed areas encompassed in climate change, such as consumerism, species extinction, and climate migration. Her goal was to select work that would round out the exhibition in such a way as to highlight the multiple facets and manifestations of the urgent climate change we face today.
